1977 Airstream Argosy Minuet 20 Exhibit "A"

1977 Argosy Minuet 20' Travel Trailer

Argosy Minuet 20' (six metre)

Vehicle Description
You are looking at a rare vintage Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre coach. Made by Airstream in 1977 in response to the fuel shortages, this gem is 20 feet long and weighs just 2450 pounds with a hitch weight of 395 pounds. It is narrower than the typical camping trailer, measuring only 84 inches. Not only does this greatly improve visibility, but it reduces wind drag. The Minuet is also special because it is made with an aluminum floor, virtually eliminating any chance of soft floor or wood rot. This particular camper was owned by a gentleman who bought it new, only to find out his better half wasn’t as keen on camping as he thought she was. Consequently it has seen little use, and has been stored for many years since the man’s death. The photo of the license shows a 1988 tag, the last year the trailer was registered. It is completely original except for the air conditioner cover, which is brand new. Because it is made by Airstream, it is quality from the comfort of the cushions to the Magic Chef oven. It is totally self contained and contains the Magic Chef Oven and stovetop, water heater, furnace, automatic thermostat, 4.5 cubic foot Dometic refrigerator, bathroom with commode and shower and sink, and reversible Fantastic Fan. The layout is great. It has a large dinette at the front which converts into a double bed, and a pullout gaucho type couch midway that converts to another double bed. The bathroom is in the rear. The woodwork is perfect. The upholstered cushions are all original and are in great shape except for some sun fading and a small area of deterioration due to sunlight that would have to be sewn.(See photo) The body has a few dings from stones but is in very good shape. The original paint is faded but a good detail job will do wonders. The carpet is also faded and needs to be cleaned, but is in good condition otherwise. It has 15 inch wheels which make it very nice to pull. Although I have not found them to be necessary, load leveling bars are also included.

I have recently taken it to my local RV Service Company and they pronounced all systems to be in working order including the roof air conditioner.

Dimensions:

Outside floor width: 84 inches

Outside height from ground: 8’6”

Inside height (floor to ceiling): 6’4”

Ground clearance: 16” to underbelly, 12” to axle tube

This is truly a masterpiece of aerodynamic engineering for those interested in such things. You can’t do better than an Airstream, especially a vintage such as this. Airstream only made the Minuet 6.0 Metre in limited quantities for 2 or 3 years in the late 70s. Its light enough that even a small SUV can pull it. Airstream’s current version of this small lightweight camper is called the Bambi, and costs in the neighborhood of $35000 to $40000 new. Why not have the quality and the retro look, at a much more reasonable cost. Also, unlike the “Silver Bullets”, you don’t have to go to the expense of having it polished every few years. A professional polish job costs $150 per linear foot of trailer.
