1971 Tiara Motorhome. There were only 39 of these made back in '71, they were the Cadillac's of the RV world. All
aluminum, riveted construction. Built like an Airstream only better!
The Tiara is built by Ultra, the same company that made the Ultravan's back in 1968. The Ultravan was the first Corvair
powered aluminum and fiberglass RV that only weighed in a 4000 lbs!
The company decided in 1970 to build a larger version of the Ultravan, and they called it the Tiara. 23' long and using
a Oldsmobile Toronado 455 Engine and front wheel drive setup, they created a luxury RV that weighed in at a little
over 6000 lbs!! (Most RV's of this era are upwards of 15,000 lbs! It achieved 10+ MPG, and drove like no other RV on
the market at the time.
This particular Tiara has been well loved by its previous owners.
It had a complete rebuild of the engine (at a significant cost) a little over 13,000 miles ago.
Most of the systems I have checked so far are working properly. The generator (Onan 4.5) has low hours.
New Dometic fridge (AC/DC/Propane). Water heater, and furnace work well.
Water system has been upgraded to plastic tank with recently replaced water pump and fill.
Waste tank (it only has one) needs to be replaced.
Mechanically in good condition. It has new wheel bearings and ball joints. New brake rotors and wheel cylinders.
The parking brake cable is not attached and the fuel gauge is inaccurate. The driver/passenger heater/air conditioner
doesn’t work (appears to be a problem with the controls), but the cabin AC blows plenty of cold air. There are some
cracks and fogging in the windshield. In 2011, all 3 batteries were replaced, new front tires installed.
The body is in good shape, painted a dull grey. There is some bending of the sheet aluminum at the exhaust pipe (see photo).
There are 2 propane tanks and an auto-transfer valve.
