We have owned this "one of a kind" motorhome for about 4 years. We started with the intention of
doing a full restoration. There has been extensive mechanical work, (have all receipts) front
end work consisting of re-attaching suspension points to the frame, new steering box, new
steering shaft, flywheel, starter, batteries, new super duty Monroe shocks, six new Firestone
heavy duty tires, (less than 800 miles) complete brakes and bearings as needed; hoses, shoes,
one new drum, & seals. The wheels are the much sought after Alcoa aluminum wheels. Most of the
lighting works and the spotlight works. This unit needs the aesthetics now and some love. Some
things are showing their age, but the unit can be used as is. The big "Zip Dee" awning needs
some attention, the other two work fine. We own a 32' Airstream also, and it fits our needs
and we don't need two of these. We are unsure as to the real miles on the chassis although the
speedo shows 1,975 miles. The inside is clean and the carpet is new. We have never attempted
to start the generator. The California plate is "Surf Lab." We call it "Stubby!"
Sofa makes into a bed.
There is a wet bathroom with sink, toilet, hand held shower.
Some lighting and interior electrical does not work.
The current owner does state that the Argosy had been sent back to the Airstream factory for a
refurbishment. I think it was done sometime in the mid to late 80s based on the interior
components matching the 84 to 86 era design. The galvanized rear cap has been replaced with
the aluminum segments and the front cap sure looks aluminum to me but I'm not certain of that.
The middle section of the body on the
drivers side is all 74 Argosy. The passenger side middle has been upgraded with a second window
and both of the side slider windows are of the later variety. The dash, bathroom and engine
cover are definitely 74 vintage. Part of the cabinet arrangement is the same as my 74 but the
stove was moved from the passenger side over to the left side. The rear interior end cap is
definitely the same as the 310/345 I'm familiar with. The generator compartment door while
still in the same location appears to be a later model door. I think it's the same as the
one I have from the 345.
