1983 Airstream 310 Motor Home This unit includes many extras (listed below) that you just won’t find on a standard Airstream Classic. The updated (2002) Gear Vendor under/overdrive and the Airstream-optimized Chevy 475 turbo-hydromatic transmission are fantastic at maximizing hill-climbing and top end speed. Each gear has a range of about 500 RPM. Alcoa rims and Michelin tires are in great shape (10mm tread depth), as are the brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust, air-leveling, drivetrain (except engine) and other P-30 chassis systems. Two rooftop Coleman AC’s and front, engine- driven AC work great; The Onan 6.5 kw generator runs fine. The 22’ awning is in good condition. The automatic step works fine. Inside the coach, the furniture and cabinetry are all in great shape. Refrigerator, stove, microwave, furnace, water and electrical systems are all in good working order. The skin is in relatively good condition with some minor scratches, dents, and dings. It is overdue for a polish and clearcoat, and the vinyl trim and striping needs to be renewed. After years of dependable, highly enjoyable service from our Airstream Classic motorhome, our last trip ended with an engine in serious trouble. A simple $10 coolant-hose “Y” fitting cracked, expelling all of the engine coolant halfway up Snoqualmie Pass. Before I could get the unit pulled over and idling, the engine overheated enough to damage the piston rings in the #1 cylinder. Once the leak was stopped and the coolant was replaced, we were able to drive the remaining 70 miles home ok, but the exhaust now pours out more white smoke than normal. The unit is drivable, bit the engine runs rough at idle until it warms up, smoothing out considerably after a few miles of driving. The diesel engine repair is beyond my mechanical and financial capabilities, so, regretfully, I must relinquish our beloved Airstream to someone willing and able to undertake the engine repair.
