1982 Airstream Classic 24 Motorhome
My father owned this during his retirement years from 1998 to when he passed suddenly last year. I have a thick set of papers where he performed maintenance and sunk lots of money into it. He and my mom were on the road in it a lot. I drove it from Albuquerque to Alabama last April and it drove great. Since then I have relocated to the Phoenix area. Before driving it here this April I took it to an RV shop to have it tuned up and checked out. They replaced the coach batteries and disconnected the furnace. Apparently there is an issue with this model furnace and the fix is to replace it. I did not replace it. Other than that they described it as a cream puff. Once here in Arizona I parked it at an RV lot where it still sits. I lived in the motorhome for 3 weeks before my family moved out to join me. Everything works great. It does not have an oven but there is a microwave in that location. The refrigerator, water heater, plumbing and air conditioner work great. I'm not sure about the dash AC. I didn't need it when I drove it. By looking at it I'm not sure how to turn it on. The fan definitely comes on. The awning has one very small hole in it but its not really noticeable. It has two Fantastic Fans with rain sensors that work great. I have a clear Alabama title in my name. The current plate is good through March or April. The exterior was redone at the Airstream place in Lubbock Tx since my dad got it. The clear coat is starting to peel again from sitting in the Arizona sun I guess. This is a really nice motorhome. I would like to keep it but I just wouldn't use it enough since I'm not retired.
I have received a lot of questions on the maintenance so the following is a summary of the repairs for which my dad kept receipts. I didn't include all of the oil changes.
1999 - Lights, suspension, alignment, new upholstery, AC compressor, water pump, radiator, new water heater, windshield and gasket, exterior strip, polish and refinish. mileage - 66,500
2000 - Transmission service, master cylinder, alternator, new refrigerator and toilet. mileage - 78,000 - 84,000
2002 - New hoses and belts - mileage 96,000.
2003 - transmission service - mileage 106,000
2004 - rear end differential fluid and gasket, belts, ignition parts, fuel filter - mileage - 113,000 - 116,000
2005 - fuel filter - mileage - 127,000
2006 - Blower motor, AC belt, Firestone Tires currently on vehicle - mileage - 134,000
It has an Onan 4.0 generator with less than 600 hours and it starts right up
